Department of Dermatology Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar is the pioneer teaching unit of the province of KPK. The Department has trained and highly qualified teaching staff, residents, nursing staff as well as administrative staff.Diagnostic, therapeutic and cosmetological care services are provided on daily basis to both indoor and outdoor patients efficiently in ward, and OPD.Only dermatology unit receiving emergency cases from whole KPK as well as from Afghanistan and providing specialized care with 24 hrs availability of trained senior and junior doctors and nursing staff.Structured training is provided to post graduate residents of FCPS and MCPS, and it has the privilege of being the first and only dermatology unit in KPK where postgraduate FCPS residents are trained.

A & E Services:

Our A & E services are functional round the clock, with trained and professional doctor on duty and nursing staff being available 24 hrs, providing dermatological care services efficiently.

  1. Journal club, weekly.
  2. Long case and short case, twice weekly.
  3. Slide sessions, monthly.
  4. Power point presentation, daily
  5. Hospital CPC, Tuesday and Thursday
Diagnostic Services::
  1. Smear for acantholytic cells.
  2. Smear for giant cells.
  3. Scabies mite extraction and examination.
  4. Wood lamp’s examination.
  5. Incisional biopsy
  6. Smear for AFB.
  7. Smear for LD bodies.
  8. Scrapings for fungal hyphae and spores.
  9. Punch biopsy.
  10. Excisional biopsy.
Theraputic Procedure::
  1. Administration of intralesional injection.
  2. Electrocautery
  3. Salicylic acid dressing.
  4. UVB Phototherapy.
  5. Cryotherapy.
  6. Fulgration
  7. Excision/ removal of cysts or tumors..
Cosmatological Procedures:
  1. Intense pulse light therapy for pigmentation
  2. Intense pulse light therapy for skin rejuvenation.
  3. Intense pulse light therapy for acne.

  6. Intense pulse light therapy for vascular malformations.

Acne

A skin condition characterized by the development of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and sometimes cysts on the face, back, chest, and shoulders.

Eczema (Dermatitis)

 A group of skin conditions that cause redness, itching, and inflammation, with atopic dermatitis being the most common type.

Psoriasis

A chronic autoimmune disease that results in the rapid buildup of skin cells, leading to scaling, redness, and discomfort.

Rosacea

 A chronic skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels on the face, often accompanied by pimple-like bumps.

Skin Cancer

Including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma, which are all types of cancer that can occur on the skin.

Hives (Urticaria)

Raised, itchy welts on the skin, often caused by an allergic reaction.

Vitiligo

A condition in which patches of skin lose their pigment, resulting in white or light-colored patches.

Warts

 Raised, rough growths on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

Shingles (Herpes Zoster)

A painful rash caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox.

Dermatophytosis (Ringworm)

A fungal infection that can affect the skin, scalp, and nails, causing a red, itchy, and ring-shaped rash.

Contact Dermatitis

Skin inflammation caused by contact with an allergen or irritant, resulting in redness, itching, and sometimes blisters.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

A common condition that causes scaly, flaky patches on the scalp, face, and other areas of the body.

Alopecia (Hair Loss)

Various types of hair loss conditions, including androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern baldness).

Melasma

 A common skin condition characterized by dark patches on the face, often triggered by hormonal changes or sun exposure.

Cellulitis

A bacterial skin infection that causes redness, swelling, and pain in the affected area.

Impetigo

A contagious bacterial skin infection that results in the formation of blisters or sores, often seen in children.

Lichen Planus

An inflammatory skin condition that leads to the development of purplish, itchy, flat-topped bumps.

Pruritus (Itchy Skin)

Generalized itching of the skin that can be caused by various underlying conditions.

Pityriasis Rosea

A common skin rash that often starts as a single, large, pink or red scaly patch, followed by smaller, similar lesions.

Dermatomyositis

An autoimmune inflammatory disease that affects the skin and muscles.

It was established in 1927and it is just 200 meters away in the south of the Grand Trunk Road, behind the famous historical Qila Balahisar. Famous MasjidMuhabat Khan,Ander Shehr bazaar, Qissa Khawani bazaar and Khyber bazaar is across the road of LRH. LRH is just outside historical wall in the jurisdiction of cantonment board. The anecdote of the hospital of its coming into being is that His Excellency Lord Reading, viceroy of India from 1921 to 1926, happened to visit Peshawar.
